Accessible Event Promotions is a not for profit company established to promote accessible arts, community, cultural and leisure events in London and the North West.  We have established an office in the Green Fish Centre Manchester received a Better Net Award from Nominet and UnLtd.  I am working on funding applications and development to launch our services.

Responsibility:

Responsible for Shape service level agreements in three London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Islington and Wandsworth.  Together with development work in other boroughs such as Southwark and Camden and pan London working on the steering group of key festivals where I represented Shape such as: -

  • Bonkersfest – a festival of Mad Arts
  • Liberty (support for the Circus Zone)

Key Projects:

In my arts development work for disabled and deaf people in the three London boroughs I devised, set up and delivered the following projects.

  • Circus Skills for 11-16 years disabled Children in a partnership between Albert & Friends Instant Circus, Hammersmith & Fulham Action on Disability HAFAD) and Shape.
  • Different Voices – Blind Writers (Adults) at the Pocklington Centre Wandsworth.  A partnership between Shape and the Pocklington Trust.
  • Out of the Box – visual arts OCN accredited course for Deaf mental health service users – Adults.  A partnership between Shape and Servite Houses Wandsworth.
  • The Boy Who Grew Flowers – performance and Schools workshops.  Two separate projects in Hammersmith & Fulham and Islington.  The first run by a partnership between Shape and Kazzum Children’s Theatre, the second a partnership between Shape, Sadlers Wells Theatre and Kazzum.
  • What’s your Story? Creative writing for the Teen Spirit group.   A partnership between Shape and Body & Soul (Children affected by HIV) Islington.

Training & Development Officer 1998 – Nov 2003

Devised, developed and delivered a coherent Training & Development programme for Disabled and Deaf people in partnership with FE and HE providers. This included:

Leading the Way – HE arts workshop leaders course for Disabled or Deaf people in partnership with Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) accredited by John Moores University. Co module leader, teaching, pastoral care, course management and evaluation and assessment of students work – 1998 – 2003.

Design, management, student recruitment and delivery of FE art skill development courses, visual arts and performing arts (Manchester – MANCAT, Liverpool – Liverpool CC, and Cumbria – Cumbria Institute of Art)

Created NVQ 3 (credits) arts business skills for disabled and deaf arts practitioners in partnership with CADT

Wrote, co-wrote and delivered courses with a team of tutors and support workers. Lead the Training & Development team – line managing the T & D assistant where we recruited all students and ensured Disabled people’s access with direct student support.

Created enjoyable and effective learning experiences for all Disabled and non disabled participants working on pan-disability social model principles.  We successfully worked with sensory impairments, physical impairments, learning difficulties and mental health issues and survivors. Achieved an average 89% success rate.

Clear administration and organisational systems and procedures in place for effective team work and monitoring. Rigorous financial control, fundraising, partnership working and reports. My funding proposals raised over £250,000 through DfES Arts Council North West, Arts Council National and private Trusts and Foundations.

Creating partnerships with LIPA, John Moores University, MANCAT, University of Leicester, Liverpool Community College, Cumbria Institute of Arts, WEA, CADT and others.
